Loved it for years!!! Read it as a youth and have read it many time since. I find J. R. R. Tolkien and George R.R. Martin boring as sin.

First off, this is a very old series, and if it seems cliched to newer readers, it's because (a) fantasy stories have become a lot more complex since its time, and (b) it IS unabashedly cliched.

It's still one of the most magical, enjoyable fantasy series out there, however. This is a traditional epic from a time when heroes were heroes, fantasy stories were about derring-do and innocent love, and the good guys always won.

Here are characters you will really know and care about by the end of the tale. I have read each book in this series (and its sequel) more than ten times from cover to cover because each reading is like a visit with beloved old friends.
